HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering has secured a significant contract with an Africa-based shipping company to build four 18,000 cubic meter (㎥) LNG bunkering vessels, according to HD Hyundai Mipo.
The order, valued at 538.3 billion won ($370.5m), will be executed by HD Hyundai Mipo.
Under the shipbuilding contract revealed on February 10, four 18,000 cubic meter (㎥) LNG bunkering vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Mipo in Ulsan.
The four LNG bunkering vessels ordered this time are 143 meters long, 25.2 meters wide, and 12.9 meters high.
The ships will be sequentially delivered by the second half of 2028.
This latest order follows a series of successful contracts for the company. In September last year, they secured orders for two 18,000㎥ and one 12,500㎥ LNG bunkering vessels, and in November, they received orders for four more 18,000㎥ vessels.
A company official stated, “Based on HD Hyundai Mipo’s world-class technology in the medium-sized ship sector, we plan to lead the eco-friendly ship market.”
The annual global consumption of LNG for bunkering is expected to increase, reaching 15 million tons in 2028. This is about a 4.7-fold increase compared to 2023.
