
A fire erupted on the containership Colorado whilst in a position approximately 970 nautical miles east of Sapporo, Japan, on September 22, as reported last week by claims specialist WK Webster.
According to reports from claims specialist, the 2024-built containership experienced a fire on board.
The incident occurred as the 65924-dwt Portugal-flagged vessel was proceeding from Yantian to Los Angeles, WK Webster reported.
“We have received reports that containership COLORADO (IMO:9973690) experienced a fire on board in a position approximately 970 nautical miles East of Sapporo, Japan, on 22 September 2025,” WK Webster said on September 22.
The latest news reports show that the fire was contained, and no casualties were reported. “It is reported that the crew successfully contained the fire,” WK Webster added.
However, the vessel had to divert to Busan, South Korea, for inspection and possibly repairs.
Marine Traffic data showed the ship located in the North China as “moored” on Monday, September 29.
The claims specialist WK Webster warns now that possible general average and recovery issues may arise as a result of this casualty.
