HD Hyundai wins order from Regional Container Lines for two ships

South Korean shipbuilder HD Hyundai Heavy Industries won an order from containership specialist RCL for two ships.

Thailand’s Regional Container Lines Public Company Limited (RCL) reported in its operating results for the third quarter of 2025 that its board of directors approved Regional Container Lines Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary in Singapore, to proceed with the acquisition of two newly built vessels.

According to the company, the newly built vessels, each with a capacity of 14,000 TEUs, will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd., in Republic of Korea.

Both vessels will be equipped with advanced technology to enhance fuel efficiency, aligning with sustainability goals and future environmental regulations.

“This strategic investment underscores the company’s long-term vision to strengthen fleet capabilities, expand into high potential markets, and establish a robust foundation for sustainable growth,” the company said on Nov. 7 in a filing to Thailand’s stock exchange.

Regional Container Lines (RCL) started as a common feeder operator, operating its first feeder container ship in 1979 between Bangkok and Singapore.

Presently, RCL’s geographical business coverage includes North East Asia, South East Asia, Indian Sub-continent, South Asia, the Middle East, the Red Sea, and East Africa.
