Terminal Investment Limited (TiL), Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Group’s container terminal operator, has sealed a deal with Denmark’s largest commercial port of Aarhus to establish a new container terminal.

The agreement between the port of Aarhus and MSC Group means that TiL will lease approximately 170,000 square meters in the Omniterminal, where they will establish and operate their own container terminal.

The terminal is expected to be fully developed by 2027, at which time MSC Group and TiL will be able to start using the area.

With this agreement, Denmark’s two largest container terminals will be located at the port in Aarhus.

“Port of Aarhus offers a good location for the future network plans we have made. We will be introducing a direct mainliner between Asia and Aarhus next year and in combination with our own terminal we can provide our customers with a practical logistics solution,” said MSC chief executive officer Søren Toft.

As it is reported, MSC will look in the longer term at other routes that could have a positive impact on Danish business and will consider further investment when new areas are developed at the port of Aarhus.

Commenting on the new deal, which will see MSC Group and TiL be using the new area when the Omniterminal is completed, Thomas Haber Borch, CEO of port of Aarhus said that “this provides businesses with more opportunities to trade with the world, strengthens our competitiveness, and reinforces our role in ensuring Danish supply to the benefit of businesses and Denmark.”
