Cruise ship specialist Crystal and Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri have finalised an order for the construction of one high-end cruise ship.
It follows the exercise of the option granted under the two-unit agreements disclosed to the market on June 27.
The value of the order, subject to financing and other terms and conditions, is between €500m and €1bn, according to Fincantieri’s statement.
The new unit, as its sister ships, will boast a gross tonnage of 61,800 tons and accommodate approximately 690 passengers.
The ship will feature all-suite accommodations, with private verandas including a popular single occupancy category designed for solo travellers.
Fincantieri said “its focus on next-generation fuel technologies, such as LNG and hydrogen, coupled with its commitment to customer-centric design, reinforces its leading position in the cruise market.”
“This strategy not only responds to industry trends towards greener and more high-end cruising experiences but also solidifies Fincantieri’s role as a trusted partner for the most prestigious brands in the world,” it added.
Recently, Fincantieri and Viking firmed contracts for the construction of two 54,300gt new cruise ships to be delivered in 2030 and signed an agreement for four additional ships in option with deliveries scheduled for 2031 and 2032.
Fincantieri did not disclose the price but said the value of this agreement is ‘large,’ which the builder defines as between €500m and €1bn, and announced these new orders would be “based on the successful features of the previous vessels, which Fincantieri has already built for this shipowner in its Italian yards.”
