Eckerö Group buys the Ro-Ro/passenger ship Sailor replacing the Fjärdvägen on the route between Långnäs and Naantali.

The ship will be operated by the company’s subsidiary Eckerö Link Ab.

The Estonia-flagged ship, built in 1987 by Gdansk Shipyard, Gdansk in Poland, has a gross tonnage of 20,921. The ship has also a 119-passenger capacity and 60 cabins.

“The connection between Åland and mainland Finland has long been the missing link in our offering. With M/S Sailor, we are now taking the next step to ensure a modern, reliable, and sustainable transport solution for the future,” said Björn Blomqvist, CEO of the Eckerö Group.

Eckerö Group states in a press release that the acquisition of Sailor allows Eckerö Link to offer greater capacity, improved energy efficiency, and opportunities for future development of both freight and passenger services. This strengthens Åland’s role as a hub for maritime transport and creates new opportunities for both business and society.

“With M/S Sailor, we strengthen our position and are ready to meet future challenges and opportunities,” added Jonas Henriksson, CEO of Eckerö Link Ab.

In a stock exchange announcement on Oct. 7, Tallink Grupp said that “the subsidiary of AS Tallink Grupp, Baltic SF VIII Limited and Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö have signed a sale-purchase agreement for the sale of the cargo vessel Sailor. The vessel will be handed over to the new owners in October.”
