Finland-based Ro/Ro specialist Godby Shipping Ab has agreed with Navimag, Chile to purchase the roro vessel dwt-6.600 tons Aurora.
According to Godby Shipping, the vessel Aurora with length 140 m, breadth 19 m and Finnish ice class 1A super, was built in 1991 for Finnish owners under the name Ahtela. The DNV-class vessel can accommodate 13 crew plus 12 drivers.
The delivery will take place in January 2025 in Algeciras, Spain, with the operator of eight roro-vessels claiming that this purchase will create work for about 25 seafarers.
Aurora is a 3-deck roro vessel with a sideport designed for transport of trailers, mafis, cassettes, forest products and containers.
The company has also revealed that it has already two representatives onboard for familiarization.
Godby Shipping intends to keep the name Aurora with the vessel after delivery being time-chartered to Peregar, Spain for their trade Algeciras-Ceuta.
“That is the same charterer and trade as Mistral did during spring and summer 2024,” Godby Shipping noted.
It is believed that there will be a future demand for roro vessels in the smaller size segment.
“The roro-market is strong and there are not that many roro vessels in this size available,” the operator added.
