Papenburg-based shipyard Meyer Werft has revealed its latest newbuilding, the Asuka III, built for the Japanese NYK Cruises.

Last weekend, the shipyard successfully undocked the ship and celebrated the next milestone.

ASUKA III left the covered building dock I (hall 5) at Meyer Werft on Saturday, January 18.

“The manoeuvre is expected to start around 10.00 am. Afterwards, the new cruise ship will moor at the fitting-out pier in the shipyard harbour,” Meyer Werft said in an announcement last week.

The LNG-powered cruise ship is not only the first ship to be built for NYK Cruises in Papenburg, but also the first passenger ship to be built under the supervision of the Japanese flag state after around 30 years, according to Meyer Werft.

The delivery of the approximately 52,200 GT ship is planned for 2025. With a length of 230 metres and a width of 29.8 metres, it will offer space for around 740 passengers.
