Norway’s Skretting teams up with Netherlands-based Vertom and Strand Shipping for the lease of four modern diesel-electric vessels.

Skretting, part of Nutreco and ultimately owned by SHV, an expert in sustainable nutritional solutions for the aquaculture industry signed a 15-year deal with Vertom, which operates a fleet of more than 100 vessels, and Strand Shipping, a specialist in shipbroking and agency services and operator of a fleet of about 20 vessels for the lease of four modern diesel-electric vessels.

As reported, the newly designed vessels feature energy-efficient hulls and a diesel-electric, multi-fuel propulsion system.

Vertom, the vessel owner, will oversee the construction of four diesel-electric vessels, integrating multiple sustainable add-ons.

Most of the vessels are scheduled to be delivered in 2026. On the other hand, Strand Shipping will manage the day-to-day operation of the fleet.

According to Vertom, each vessel will be equipped with a range of sustainable technologies. These include biofuel capabilities for cleaner energy use and shore-power connections that allow the vessels to cut emissions during port operations.

Where feasible, wind-assisted propulsion (WAPS) will also be integrated, Vertom said, to further reduce fuel consumption. In addition, the vessels will feature several other decarbonization measures.

“Together, these innovations will significantly lower the environmental impact of Skretting’s logistics operations, while maintaining high standards of performance and reliability,” reads the Vertom statement.
