Norway’s Arriva Shipping continues its fleet renewal with a fresh dry cargo vessel order in China. The shipowner and operator of a fleet of eight self-discharging dry cargo vessels, with capacities ranging from 2,000-8,000 dwt, has sealed an agreement with the Chinese shipyard Jiangsu SOHO Marine Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. to construct a new dry cargo vessel for its fleet.

As it is reported, the vessel is scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of 2026 and will join its sister vessels, Nor Viking, which was delivered in 2022, and another ship ordered (SH007), which is due for delivery in December 2025, as part of the company’s fleet renewal and growth strategy.

To remind, the general cargo bulk carrier Nor Viking was built in 2022 at Dayang Offshore Equipment Co., LTD (China).

“This investment aligns with our goal of modernising the fleet and reducing our carbon footprint,” said CEO and partner Sindre Matre. “SH008 builds on the success of Nor Viking and its hybrid technology, further enhancing our efficiency and sustainability.”

The vessel, with a cargo capacity of 8,000 deadweight tons, will feature a 2 MW battery hybrid system, and reduce emissions and energy use while meeting strict environmental regulations and customer demands for efficient logistics, the company said in its release.

Founded in 1972 by Johannes Matre, Arriva Shipping began as a family-owned shipping company.

Today, the company operates from its head office in Ølensvåg, with branch offices in Stavanger and Gdansk.

Arriva Shipping is a short-sea shipping company providing services to Norwegian and European industrial and entrepreneurial businesses.

The company owns and operates a fleet of eight self-discharging dry cargo vessels, with capacities ranging from 2,000 to 8,000 dwt. Additionally, it supplements its operations with 5-10 chartered vessels on time charter or on a commission basis.

The company’s fleet primarily operates in Northern Europe.
