Greece´s dry bulk shipowner Diana Shipping was recognized for its strong presence in the US capital markets and the company’s CEO Semiramis Paliou received the related award from the US Ambassador in Greece, George J. Tsunis, in the First Annual Hellenic-American Shipping Gala.
The Gala was hosted by the International Propeller Club of the United States, Port of Piraeus, in cooperation with the United States Embassy in Athens.
Diana Shipping notes that it is honored to join 26 other prestigious shipping companies of Greek interests listed on US Capital Markets in receiving this recognition.
The Hellenic-American Shipping Gala is an event celebrating the strong friendship and cooperation between Greece and the United States in the field of shipping.
On the occasion of the Gala, George J. Tsunis, US Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic and Ηonorary President of the International Propeller Club, Port of Piraeus, noted the importance of the Greek shipping community in strengthening the U.S.-Greece relationship.
Mr. Tsunis stated: “We honor the important role that the Greek shipping community plays in U.S.-Greece relations by serving as an essential bridge of friendship between our two nations while sustaining global commerce.”
Semiramis Paliou has served as a director of Diana Shipping since March 2015, and as the company’s chief executive officer, chairperson of the executive committee and member of the sustainability committee since March 2021.
Ms. Paliou has been the chief executive officer of Diana Shipping Services since March 2021.
She also serves as a director of OceanPal since April 2021 and as the chairperson of the board of directors and of the executive committee of OceanPal since November 2021.
Ms. Paliou is the chairperson of the Hellenic Marine Environment Protection Association (Helmepa), a position she has held since June 2020, while she joined its board of directors in March 2018.
As of June 2021, she serves as vice-chairperson of Intermepa. She is also a member of the board of directors of the UK P&I Club since November 2020, member of the Union of Greek Shipowners since February 2022 and member of the Global Maritime Forum since April 2022.
She is vice-chairperson of the Greek committee of Det Norske Veritas, a member of the Greek committee of Nippon Kaiji Kyokai and a member of the Greek committee of Bureau Veritas.
