Greek bulker owner Icon invests in long-term chartered containership

Nasdaq-listed Greek dry bulk owner Icon Energy Corp. has announced a minority investment in a feeder containership employed on a long-term charter.

The Ismini Panagiotidi-led Icon has agreed to acquire about 5% equity interest in the entity formed to own a 2,000-teu geared feeder vessel built in 2008.

Upon acquisition, the vessel will be chartered to an investment-grade liner operator at a fixed hire rate of $26,500 per day, for a period of 24 to 26 months, generating around $19m of minimum contracted revenue.

The vessel will be purchased by a consortium of maritime investors led by an established containership owner and operator, which will also undertake the vessel’s commercial and technical management.

Icon said the investment will be funded from cash on hand, with the transaction expected to close by the end of June 2026, subject to definitive documentation and customary closing conditions.

Currently, the company’s fleet portfolio consists of three dry bulk vessels, the panamax Alfa (2006-built), the kamsarmax Bravo (2007-built) and the ultramax Charlie (2020-built).
