Egypt’s National Navigation Company (NNC) is expanding its fleet portfolio with the order of two new kamsarmax vessels.
The Cairo-based company specializing in the shipping of dry bulk cargo has commissioned Hantong Shipyard to build two new kamsarmaxes with delivery expected in September and November of 2028.
The company claims that the two units with a capacity of 82,000 tons per vessel, length 229 meters, width 32.26 meters and draft 14.5 meters, will have an advanced hull design to reduce fuel consumption. Financial terms were not disclosed by NNC.
With this new contract, the National Navigation Company will have renewed approximately 54% of its owned fleet, aiming to maximize fleet capacity to 18 vessels by 2030.
Founded in 1981, NNC owns a fleet of 14 vessels under the Egyptian flag, including 13 dry bulk vessels, with a total tonnage of about 1 million tons, and one container ship with a capacity of 3,013 TEUs.
NNC, with a short post in LinkedIn, said this move aligns with the ministry of transport’s strategic goals to enhance the national commercial fleet and reinforce Egypt’s leading position in the maritime transport sector in the Middle East.
