Tomini Group charters handymax from Japanese owner for five years

Dubai-based shipowner and operator Tomini Group, led by the Shaikh family, has chartered a handymax for five years from Japanese owner Daido Kaiun Co., Ltd.

The company said the 42,401-dwt handymax Tomini Sakura, built by Oshima Shipbuilding, joins its fleet under a five-year time charter from Daido Kaiun Co., Ltd.

Tomini Group took delivery on November 21, according to the company’s announcement.

“We are proud to welcome Tomini Sakura into our fleet,” said Numair Shaikh, chief executive officer of Tomini Group. “Our decision to enter into this five-year charter reflects our deep confidence in Daido Kaiun and in the exceptional craftsmanship of Oshima Shipbuilding. We will treat Tomini Sakura not merely as chartered tonnage, but as one of our own – maintaining her to the highest standards and ensuring she remains a credit to her owners throughout our engagement.”

According to Tomini Group, the delivery marks an important step in its long-term strategy of building strong partnerships in Japan and growing its presence in the handymax segment.
