Turkey’s Yasa rewarded a Clarksons sale-and-purchase broker at the naming of a handy bulker in China.
Katrine Birkholm S&P broker of Clarksons Denmark became the godmother of the 40,000-dwt Yasa Daisy at Jiangmen in Southern China.
Yasa Daisy, a handy bulker constructed for YASA in Turkey, marks the sixth in a series of ten vessels commissioned from the same yard, with the next delivery scheduled for March of this year.
The naming ceremony, held on January 25th at the JNS yard just outside Jiangmen in Southern China, marked the first JNS naming ceremony in eight years.
Clarksons broker Katrine Birkholm and newbuilding director, Luan Xiaojun were welcomed by the yard’s team before the official commencement of the ceremony. They attended the naming ceremony and delivery of the JNS200/Yasa Daisy, where Katrine Birkholm became the ship’s godmother.
“The vessel, contracted by Nicolai Kofoed, managing director, Clarksons Denmark, and Peter Love, director, newbuilding department, Clarksons, highlights the partnership between Clarksons and Yasa,” as Clarksons notes.
Nicolai Kofoed, personally recommended Katrine as a candidate for godmother of the ship.
Katrine Birkholm, S&P broker, Clarksons Denmark, said: “A big thank you to Yasa for allowing me to be the godmother of their vessel and to JNS for arranging such a beautiful ceremony.”
The event kicked off with a speech by Victor Sheng Li, vice president of JNS, before Katrine christened the vessel and began the ceremonial cutting of the robe to crack the champagne, before the fireworks and music.
As a token of appreciation, Mr. Li presented Katrine with a unique godmother gift—a framed fan crafted from leaves sourced from local trees.
Following the ceremony, guests were invited aboard for a tour of the bridge by the captain. Katrine will continue to follow the crew and the vessel closely on their travels, maintaining regular communication with the captain and crew members for updates from around the world. She also plans to revisit the vessel when it docks in Denmark.
Katrine added, “This was a very unique experience that I am extremely grateful for. Having the honour of being the godmother at my first delivery is very special and something I will forever remember. Getting to travel to places where tourists usually wouldn’t go is one of the perks of our job, and getting to do it at the age of 23 is very special.”
