Athens-based mid-stream CO2 services company ECOLOG, which is supported by one of Greece’s leading multi-generational shipping families, the Greek shipowner Peter G. Livanos of GasLog, partners with ship designer specialist Deltamarin to design an intra-EU, short-range, low-pressure, shallow-draft liquid CO2 (LCO2) carrier.
In a statement, Deltamarin said the design has been readied “for the purpose of tendering at shipyards worldwide.”
During the initial design, various solutions have been carefully studied in order to optimize the vessel for LCO2 transportation, including different configurations of the cargo containment and handling system, considering the effect of the wide variety of CO2 compositions.
The design includes optimized cargo containment and handling systems for various CO2 compositions and features LNG dual-fuel propulsion, shore power (AMP), and wind assistance to reduce environmental impact.
ECOLOG, which is a new venture from an established group of companies, claims that it is committed to build up a fleet of liquid CO2 carriers to serve the emerging carbon capture, utilization and sequestration sector.
In its statement, Deltamarin notes that “ECOLOG’s strategy revolves around connecting hard-to-abate emitters with cost-competitive sequestration sites and high-value re-use facilities, utilizing ECOLOG’s midstream infrastructure, including ships and terminals.”
