The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday shared updates regarding the ongoing recovery operations of the capsized Philippine-flagged motor tanker (MT) Terranova, on the sunken motor tanker MTKR Jason Bradley and on the MV Mirola 1 which ran aground on July 31.
A PCG spokesman told reporters that regarding the motor tanker (MT) Terranova four coast guard divers conducted underwater inspection, whilst coast guard personnel sprayed dispersant to metallic oil sheen trapped inside the first layer of spill boom 400 meters south off ground zero.
To remind, the Philippine-flagged motor tanker (MT) Terranova capsized and eventually submerged 3.6 nautical miles east off Lamao Point, Limay, Bataan, at around 1:10 a.m. on July 25, 2024.
The PCG on Thursday also gave an update for the sunken motor tanker MTKR Jason Bradley in the vicinity waters of Barangay Cabcaben, Mariveles, Bataan, mentioning that coast guard personnel patrolled to check traces of oil spill at Sitio Sibol, Barangay Mt. View, Mariveles, Bataan.
The M/tug Challenger repositioned oil spill boom at the partially floated MTKR Jason Bradley to mitigate the risk of oil leakage.
On July 27, 2024, three 44-meter coast guard vessels proceeded to the vicinity waters and confirmed the presence of the sunken vessel MTKR Jason Bradley.
The coast guard reported on August 12 that it monitors the ongoing seawater siphoning to salvage the MTKR Jason Bradley in the vicinity waters of Barangay Cabcaben, Mariveles, Bataan.
Michael John Encina, CG Lieutenant commander said the sunken motor tanker is now partially afloat.
“The contracted salvor will then move the vessel to the nearest safe shoreline, where the siphoning of 5,500 liters of diesel oil on board will occur,” he added.
The coast guard also reported that regarding the vessel MV Mirola 1 which ran aground on July 31, the contracted salvor, Morning Star, conducted on-site preparation and diving operations to assess the situation of the aground vessel.
To remind, the PCG and PDRRMO-Bataan conducted drone aerial surveillance and shoreline assessment in the vicinity waters of Sitio Quiapo, Barangay Biaan, Mariveles, Bataan, where MV Mirola 1 ran aground.
