The Canary Islands-based Fred. Olsen S.A. launched the Fred. Olsen Cargo Express line in 2024 with the acquisition of two RORO type vessels for cargo transport.

After almost a year of activity, Fred. Olsen S.A. announces the adding this summer of a third RORO vessel that will connect La Palma with the islands of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.

The news was announced yesterday morning at a press conference offered by the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, which was attended by its minister, Pablo Rodríguez; the president of the Cabildo Insular de La Palma, Sergio Rodríguez, the CEO of Fred. Olsen, S.A., Andrés Marín, and Fred. Olsen Express’s Fleet Manager, Juan Ignacio Liaño.

The new RoRo vessel will be named “Breñas Cargo” and will be used to transport cargo, mainly ro-ro cargo, offering a regular service with three weekly rotations and optimised schedules for the supplies and transport of products from the Isla Bonita.

In addition, it will facilitate the connection with the Spanish Peninsula, through the route that Fred. Olsen operates together with Baleària between the Canary Islands and Huelva.

This new added RORO type vessel can transport up to 1,500 linear meters and 7,000 tons. With a length of 138.5 meters, it is equipped with two transverse propellers that facilitate manoeuvres in port and can reach a maximum speed of 20 knots, as Fred. Olsen says in its statement.
