Denmark’s Norden, a shipping company known for its ocean-based freight services for liquid, bulk and project cargo of all sizes, is making a further move to strengthen its presence in the project cargo sector.

The company revealed yesterday that it has signed agreements for two additional 17,500 dwt multi-purpose (MPP) newbuilding leases with purchase options, with expected deliveries to Norden in 2026 and 2027.

These follow the recent addition of two similar vessels, as Shipping Telegraph reported on January 15, with Norden building a core MPP fleet and growing its presence in the project cargo market, which benefits from a strong projected demand outlook coupled with a rapidly ageing fleet and low orderbook.

Both chartered vessels are fuel-efficient, biofuel compatible and feature the same forward-bridge design as the earlier units, Norden said, optimising space capacity to complex cargo needs.

Since entering the project cargo segment in 2023, Norden has expanded to around 50 vessels, transporting windmill components, industrial equipment and break-bulk cargo.
