Cheniere Marketing International LLP, a wholly owned subsidiary of US LNG producer Cheniere Energy, has declared the option to increase the number of vessels it will charter at substantially similar terms.

In December 2025, Norwegian ship owning company Ocean Yield AS and Japanese giant Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK Line) announced their agreement to co-invest in four newbuilding LNG carriers, to be constructed in Korea, noting that the charterer granted options that may increase the size of the investment to eight vessels. Both parties will have an ownership interest of around 50% in the vessels.

NYK Line, together with Ocean Yield AS, signed multiple long-term charter contracts for new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers with Cheniere Marketing International LLP.

The vessels will be built at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. in South Korea and will be delivered from 2028.

Upon delivery, each vessel will commence long-term time charters. The optional vessels are to be constructed in Korea, with deliveries in 2029.

The charterer on February 27 declared the option to increase the number of vessels, the statement of Ocean Yield reads.

Closing of the investment is subject to certain customary conditions.

The 200,000 cubic meters units will be the first LNG carriers NYK has chartered under a long-term time charter contract with Cheniere.
