COSCO SHIPPING is marking 10 years since entering the shareholding structure of the Piraeus Port Authority after a decade of expansion across several port businesses.
The port of Piraeus completes ten years of cooperation with COSCO SHIPPING, with the Piraeus Port Authority S.A. underlining, in a relevant post, that the last decade marked a period of intense transformation and development across several sectors in Greece’s largest port.
PPA S.A., whose chairman is Han Chao, stated that during these ten years the port of Piraeus has strengthened its position as a major Mediterranean transshipment hub, while cruise activity has grown significantly with steadily rising passenger traffic and new record highs, while Piraeus has developed into an important homeporting destination.
In ship repair, works continue to upgrade the Perama Ship Repair Zone, strengthening a sector of key importance for Greek shipping.
At the Car Terminal, the main gateway for Greek vehicle imports, the expansion of infrastructure has been completed.
Piraeus also remains one of Europe’s busiest passenger ports, serving ferry connections to the Greek islands.
This decade has marked a broader economic and social contribution. PPA S.A. says the port now supports thousands of jobs and contributes significantly to the economy of the neighbouring municipalities.
According to Piraeus Port Authority, environmental and sustainability projects have also become a large part of the port’s strategy, including energy upgrades, environmental infrastructure and the creation of the PPA Park, which is intended to provide a new green and recreational space for local residents.
