A total of 481 people were evacuated from Siviri beach after a major wildfire broke out in the Kassandreia area of Chalkidiki, Greece.
A total of two Coast Guard patrol boats, two Fire Service vessels, the high-speed passenger-car ferry Speedrunner Jet, three fishing boats and numerous Coast Guard personnel, along with private vessels, took part in the operation.
The operation took place on Thursday afternoon under the overall coordination of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection and the Unified Coordination Operations and Crisis Management Centre (ESKEDIK), with the Coast Guard’s Operations Centre overseeing the maritime evacuation.
According to the Hellenic Coast Guard, 285 people were evacuated from Siviri beach and transported to the Sani marina.
Another 196 people boarded the Speedrunner Jet, with assistance from private vessels, and travelled to the port of Thessaloniki.
The New Moudania Port Authority activated the local emergency response plan after receiving information about the wildfire in the area.
Three Coast Guard vessels, two Fire Service boats and private craft remain on standby in the area to provide further assistance if needed.
