The “Hellenic Spirit” ship that was trying to dock at the port of Patras, coming from Italy, hit two ships during the mooring process in the south port of Patras, in Greece.
The 2001-built Greek-flagged ro-ro/passenger ship, Hellenic Spirit of ANEK lines, was having difficulty mooring due to the gale force winds blowing in the area.
The ship in its attempt to moor collided with the ro-ro / passenger ship Superfast II and the oil product tanker Aegean Tiffany.
In accordance with the latest information from the Hellenic Coast Guard, the ship safely docked at the port of Patras and disembarked the passengers and vehicles, while executing a scheduled route from the port of Ancona, Italy to the port of Patras with an intermediate destination the port of Igoumenitsa.
The ship was carrying one hundred and twenty-eight (128) passengers and one hundred and sixteen (116) vehicles.
The Port authority put safety boats on standby, while there were no injuries, and no marine pollution was found as a result of the incident.
Inspectors of the port’s local ship inspection unit inspected the above ships and recorded the damages, while the Patras port authority, which is conducting the preliminary investigation, prohibited the ships from sailing until the class maintenance-seaworthiness certificates are presented by the class societies monitoring the ships.
