The Greek shipowner Maran Gas Maritime of Angelicoussis Group delivers the first LNG cargo at Thi Vai LNG Terminal, marking a historic milestone for the Vietnamese energy industry, especially in the summer peaks of power demand.
Wearing an impressive blue color, the ship Maran Gas Achilles gradually approached on the morning of July 10 the position of Thi Vai LNG Terminal, marking the first and most important event in the green energy transition roadmap of Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV GAS).
The Chairman of PV Gas, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh, who boarded the Maran Gas Achilles, welcomed the first “LNG ambassador” from Shell and thanked the responsible, disciplined and enthusiastic working spirit of all parties involved on this important day.
With a volume of nearly 70,000 tons of LNG imported from Bontang port, Indonesia, the Maran Gas Achilles vessel docked at PV GAS wharf to supply the entire amount of LNG for the trial run and official operation of Thi Vai LNG warehouse.
In addition to importing LNG to supplement the shortage of domestic gas, PV GAS is also in talks with ExxonMobil, Novatek, seeking LNG opportunities.
Mr. Pham Van Phong, president and CEO of PV GAS, chaired separated meetings earlier this month with Novatek (Russia) and ExxonMobil (USA) to explore business opportunities in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) sector.
Novatek delegates, led by Elena Golm, director of business development and head of M&A, along with seniors from commercial and LNG investment sectors, expressed their will to cooperate with PV GAS in the marketing of LNG in the 2023 – 2026 period. Throughout the session, PV GAS and Novatek were actively updating their development progress and discussing potential LNG power projects in Vietnam.
Later on, PV GAS separately welcomed Ms. Marion Powell-Wust – Business Development Executive, ExxonMobil LNG Market Development in Asia, to discuss cooperation opportunities regarding LNG supply for Thi Vai LNG Terminal in the commercial operation phase and investment potentials in upstream projects in Vietnam.
