Avenir LNG has secured a multi-year extension for the 2021-built Avenir Accolade with the U.S.-based LNG company Excelerate Energy. Avenir LNG, with a fleet of LNG bunker and supply vessels, reported the news yesterday with a short media post on LinkedIn, mentioning that it starts a new partnership with Excelerate Energy with a multi-year charter.
The deal comes as part of Excelerate’s purchase of New Fortress Energy’s LNG import and power businesses in Jamaica, the company said, adding that the “vessel is expected to remain employed, providing a vital service with cleaner, more cost effective natural gas solutions to the people of Jamaica.”
To remind, New York-listed Excelerate closed its acquisition of New Fortress Energy Inc.’s business in Jamaica.
Under the terms of the purchase deal, Excelerate has acquired the assets and operations of the Montego Bay liquified natural gas terminal, the Old Harbour LNG Terminal, and the Clarendon combined heat and power plant.
Jonathan Quinn, managing director, Avenir LNG, said about the charter deal: “We are very pleased to announce the commencement of a new relationship with another industry leader as Avenir LNG continues to deliver on our chartering strategy – this time with US-listed regasification specialist Excelerate Energy.”
“We’d like to thank NFE for the strong collaboration over the past years and look forward to continuing our strong operating track record in the region and building a partnership to support another key US LNG player, signalling Avenir’s commitment to serving small-scale LNG shipping requirements globally,” he added.
