BGN expands owned LPG fleet with duo HD Hyundai VLGCs

Energy and commodities trading company BGN has sealed a new deal with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) on June 5 for the construction of two dual-fuel very large gas carriers (VLGCs), underlining its determination to further strengthen its position in the global LPG shipping market.

The vessels, each with a cargo capacity of 93,000 cbm, will be built at HD HHI’s shipyard in Korea and are scheduled for delivery by 2029.

The agreement follows BGN’s recent order for four additional dual-fuel VLGCs and increases the company’s owned LPG VLGC fleet to 19 vessels.

Designed to operate on both conventional and lower-emissions fuels, the new vessels are also capable of carrying ammonia.

“With one of the largest owned and chartered shipping fleets in its sector, BGN continues to invest in modern, efficient maritime infrastructure to support growing global energy demand, strengthen supply chains and advance its long-term growth ambitions,” the statement of BGN reads.

BGN hosted on Thursday a reception in Istanbul for its global LPG Shipping Partners. Mr. Emin Imanov, BGN’s chief executive officer, trade & operations welcomed around 50 senior executives from BGN’s international shipping partners across the world, alongside members of BGN’s shipping and commercial teams.

The event coincided with BGN’s recent announcements of its partnership with HD Hyundai Heavy Industries for the construction of six new dual-fuel VLGCs.
