BGN expands owned LPG fleet with HD Hyundai VLGC quartet

Energy and commodities trading company and shipowner BGN has contracted HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HD HHI) to build four additional 93,000 cbm LPG dual-fuel very large gas carriers (VLGCs). No contract price was disclosed.

The agreement was signed at a ceremony in Istanbul on October 14, 2026.

The vessels will be built in South Korea and are expected to be delivered in January 2030. Once delivered, the order will increase BGN’s owned LPG VLGC fleet from 19 to 23 vessels, building on its existing fleet of more than 40 owned and chartered vessels.

The latest investment brings BGN’s total number of new dual-fuel VLGCs contracted with HD HHI in 2026 to 10 vessels, following agreements for four 90,000 cbm vessels announced in April and two 93,000 cbm vessels announced in June.

The new vessels will feature dual-fuel technology, enabling them to operate on LPG as well as conventional marine fuels.

BGN shipping director Ozan Turgut said the company is accelerating fleet investment to support its strategic growth and diversify its global energy portfolio.

“We are excited by the pace at which BGN is growing its shipping fleet,” Turgut stressed. “By accelerating investment in state-of-the-art vessels, we are building the capacity needed to support our strategic growth and diversify our global energy portfolio.”
