Shipowner BW LNG, part of BW Group, has sealed a long-term charter deal with Norwegian multinational energy company Equinor for one of its vessels.
The LNG vessel BW Borealis was delivered from Hanwha Ocean’s Okpo Shipyard in South Korea, and commenced her long-term charter with Equinor on March 4, 2026.
Named after the Latin word for ‘northern,’ the vessel has a carrying capacity of 174,000 cbm and is equipped with ME-GI propulsion, a full reliquefaction system, shaft generators, and ALS.
With the delivery of the LNG vessel, BW LNG marks the completion of the two-vessel programme chartered to Equinor.
Her sister vessel, BW Nivalis, was delivered on February 4, 2026.
In a short post on social media, the company said: “This milestone underscores the strong collaboration between BW LNG and Hanwha Ocean and heralds the start of a long-term partnership with Equinor.”
To remind, BW LNG is a developer, owner, and operator of floating gas infrastructure solutions, with over 30 LNG carriers and floating storage and regasification units. BW LNG is a subsidiary of BW Group, a global energy and maritime group, including seven listed companies.
Founded in 1955 by Sir YK Pao, BW controls a fleet of over 450 vessels transporting oil, gas, and dry commodities, with its 200 LNG and LPG ships constituting one of the largest gas fleets in the world.
