Greek shipowner Capital Gas Ship Management, led by Evangelos Marinakis, took delivery of a newbuild liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier from South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy.
Capital Gas said this is the eighth of eighteen vessels to be delivered to Capital Gas until 2027.
The new ship called Amore Mio I was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in S. Korea comes with an air lubrication system, shaft generators, and increased filling limits above 99%.
The vessel, which has a cargo capacity of 174,000 m3, is also propelled with MAN MEGA engines, and in accordance with the owner Amore Mio I represents “the vanguard of the new generation of LNG carriers, setting an industry benchmark with its exceptionally low environmental impact.”
It achieves this by employing cutting-edge technologies designed to minimize methane slip and substantially reduce CO2 emissions.
Capital Gas, a ship management service provider, currently operates a fleet of twenty one modern LNG carriers, two pioneering LCO2 carriers, and two dual fuel very large ammonia carriers (VLACs), with a total carrying capacity of about 3.18 million cbm.
The fleet under management includes vessels of Nasdaq-listed Capital Product Partners.
Earlier this year, the owner ordered two 88,000 cu m very-large ammonia carriers (VLAC) with KSOE.
The vessels will be constructed at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, South Korea, and are scheduled to be delivered by the second half of 2027.
As the owner explains, these ships distinguish themselves from conventional very-large gas carriers as they are designed with significantly increased ammonia loading capacity in the cargo tanks, allowing them to carry ammonia up to 98% of cargo tank capacity.
Capital is currently implementing one of the largest and most diversified shipbuilding programs of a series of newbuildings, with delivery dates extending from 2020 to 2027, including the order of the two liquefied CO2 (LCO2) 22,000cbm carriers, expected to be delivered in 2025-2026.
