The Carib Group enters the semi-refrigerated handy gas carrier segment as a shipowner after the recent acquisition of a liquefied petroleum gas LPG/chemical tanker.

This acquisition marks a strategic move for the Carib Group to expand its capabilities.

Carib LPG Trading Ltd. confirmed the news with a post on social media LinkedIn. “The Carib Group is pleased to announce the successful acquisition of the Intrepid (IMO 9798167, formerly Desert Orchid), marking our strategic entry as an owner in the semi-refrigerated handy gas carrier segment,” the company said.

The Intrepid is a modern, fuel-efficient vessel operating within an ageing fleet segment, Carib LPG Trading said in its statement, with a limited order book – creating favourable market dynamics, adding that the vessel’s capability to transport LPG, ammonia, and a range of petrochemical gases, offers significant operational flexibility.

Harry Chilton, chief executive officer of Carib LPG Trading, commented: “This acquisition reflects our strong liquidity position and disciplined approach to capital allocation. It enables us to expand our owned fleet immediately, without the execution risks typically associated with newbuild programmes. We view this as a high-quality investment, delivering accretive returns and diversified cash flows for shareholders.”

To remind, Carib LPG Trading Ltd. specializes in trading and transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) across the Caribbean, Latin America, Africa and Europe.
