The chief executive of P&I, marine and energy insurance provider, Gard, is set to become the new chair of the International Group of P&I Clubs (the IG).
IG has unanimously agreed that, at its November 2025 AGM, Rolf Thore Roppestad will be proposed as the new chair.
Rolf Thore will succeed Andrew Cutler, the CEO of Britannia P&I, at the end of his 3-year term in the role.
The IG is made up of 12 mutual protection and indemnity clubs that together provide cover for almost 90% of the world fleet.
The twelve P&I Clubs cover a wide range of liabilities, including loss of life and personal injury to crew, passengers and others on board, cargo loss and damage, pollution by oil and other hazardous substances, wreck removal, collision and damage to property.
They also provide a wide range of services to their members including claims handling, advice on legal issues and loss prevention, and they regularly play a role in coordinating the response to, and management of, maritime casualties.
