A merchant vessel was detained by the Malaysian authorities for allegedly anchoring without permission in the waters near Pulau Buloh on November 15.
The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) reported on Monday (November 17) that the ship in question was detained at 11.10 am at a position of about 17.7 nautical miles southwest of Pulau Buloh.
An official said investigations found that the ship is suspected of committing an offence under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952 for anchoring without permission of the Director General of the Malaysian Maritime Authority and failing to report its arrival in Malaysian waters.
The merchant ship was operated by a crew of 20 Chinese nationals, and all of them had valid identification documents.
“The case will be investigated under the Merchant Shipping Ordinance 1952,” he explained.
Meanwhile, he stressed that the Malaysian Maritime Authority would continue to implement strict enforcement against any party that violates the law in national waters.
