The Copenhagen-based offshore wind turbine transportation and installation specialist Cadeler has revealed a collaboration with MHP – A Porsche company with the aim to purchase e-methanol volumes for its vessels.
Cadeler said it is joining the MHP’s HyLion network to advance e-methanol production, supporting the transition towards a more sustainable and decarbonised supply chain. The HyLion network consists of many partners including Cadeler A/S.
“In line with our alternative fuel strategy, we will contribute to the HyLion initiative as an offtaker, exploring opportunities to purchase e-methanol volumes for our vessels,” Cadeler said, adding that reducing emissions across offshore operations requires a multi-faceted approach.
The aim of the HyLion network is to establish a transnational, European end-to-end supply chain for CO2-reduced hydrogen and e-methanol.
The plan is to produce e-methanol in Scotland and supply it for various applications in the UK and Europe, including Germany.
In Scotland, partners in the HyLion network plan to produce CO2-reduced hydrogen from renewable energies in the near future and then convert it into e-methanol.
The management and IT consultancy MHP provides strategic and operational advice on this project and supports the network with digital solutions along the entire supply chain, among other things.
“Our dedication to sustainability is further reflected in our ongoing investments in low-emission vessel capabilities,” Cadeler explained in a short post in LinkedIn.
“With future-ready designs that include green fuels compatibility, battery packs, and shore power connections, we are reducing the carbon footprint of offshore operations,” the company added.
