London-based gas-focused independent E&P company Energean, with operations in Israel, Egypt and European countries, has confirmed that it received notice from the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure on June 13 ordering the temporary suspension of production and activities of the Energean Power FPSO, following the recent geopolitical escalation in the region.
The Israeli defense forces launched an attack on Iran on Friday, in a dramatic escalation of their long-running conflict that drew early retaliation from Tehran and raised the specter of another war in the Middle East. An enrichment site in Iran and surface-to-air missile systems − these were among the targets Israel struck June 13 as part of a wave of attacks on Iran.
Karish is a significant natural gas and liquids producing field offshore Israel. Karish produces natural gas and hydrocarbons liquids through Energean’s regionally Energean Power FPSO.
Located offshore Northern Israel, it is a major contributor to both energy competition and energy security in Israel, as the company claims in its website.
All production activities have now been temporarily suspended, and notices have been issued to Energean’s customers and other stakeholders.
“The safety of Energean’s staff is our top priority,” the company said in a statement.
Energean maintains a close dialogue with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and other relevant stakeholders to facilitate the safe resumption of production as soon as possible.
The company added that further updates will be provided as they become available.
