UK’s oil and gas company Perenco has confirmed five fatalities from the incident on its Perenco Simba field offshore Gabon, with one person still missing.
The incident took place on March 20, 2024, and the company officially confirmed the incident yesterday March 21.
“Following the incident which took place yesterday at the Perenco Simba field offshore Gabon, the fire has been extinguished and the site has been safely secured. We deeply regret to confirm that there have been five fatalities, and one person is still missing.
“Our thoughts are with the bereaved families, and we are focused on supporting them at this time,” Perenco said in a short statement.
Emergency teams continue to be deployed on site and to search for the missing person. Perenco said it will provide further information as soon as possible.
Gabon’s transitional President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema is following with great attention the incident and he is standing by the families so that all light is shed on this tragedy.
“Faced with the tragedy that occurred in Perenco, my thoughts are with the victims and their families. Rest assured of my total commitment to clarifying the facts of this incident,” said the President on social media Facebook and X (former twitter).
