In a huge milestone for the world of LNG, Pioneer III, the utilities and accommodation rig for New Fortress Energy’s Fast LNG 1 unit, has set sail for Altamira, Mexico.
The U.S. energy company said on Friday “Pioneer III consists of the facility main control room, three Siemens SGT 400 power generation turbines to power the full facility, beds for ~80 team members, a helideck, and all systems required for the living quarters and utility needs of the company’s Fast LNG 1 project.”
New Fortress Energy (NFE) in June received an export permit for its Altamira Fast LNG facility from Mexico’s Ministry of Energy.
Under the permit granted by SENER, NFE is authorized to export up to 7.8 million metric tons through April, 2028, providing ample capacity to support the operations of the 1.4 million tons per annum Fast LNG facility through the permitted period.
Additionally, as previously announced, NFE received authorization from the U.S. department of energy to export US-sourced LNG to Mexico and other FTA countries.
“We expect to complete commissioning of our first Fast LNG unit in the shipyard and on-location at the Altamira site and continue to anticipate First Gas and commercial operations date in July 2023 and August 2023,” said the company in its financial first quarter earnings.
The company, founded in 2014 by Wes Edens, owns and operates natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) infrastructure and an integrated fleet of ships and logistics assets.
