Europe’s specialized shipbuilder Tersan Shipyard has sealed a significant deal with South Korea-based LS Marine Solution for the construction of a next-generation, ultra-large cable-laying vessel.
The agreement was officially signed on June 28 in Istanbul by Tersan Shipyard chairman of the board Nurettin Paksu and LS Marine Solution CEO Kim Byung-ok. Financial details were not disclosed.
The news came to light after a short announcement by Tersan Shipyard in its website and social media account LinkedIn.
Designed by Norwegian Salt Ship Design, the vessel will feature cutting-edge technology, including a 13,000-ton cable carrying capacity and a total displacement of 18,800 tons.
Measuring 148.4 meters in overall length and 31 meters in breadth, it will also offer accommodation for up to 100 personnel on board.
According to Tersan Shipyard, the vessel – capable of simultaneously laying high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables and fiber optic cables – will become one of only three vessels globally with this advanced capability.
