Ship designer, shipbuilder and system solutions provider Ulstein Verft launched the second construction service operation vessel (CSOV) for Norway’s subsea service expert Olympic on August 21.
The vessel Olympic Notos like the recently delivered Olympic Boreas, features Twin X-Stern solution.
The contract between subsea service operator Olympic and Ulstein was signed in 2022 and includes the design, engineering and construction of two CSOVs at Ulstein Verft.
The hulls are built by the Crist yard in Poland. The vessels are powered by diesel-electric propulsion with variable speed and large battery energy storage systems.
Ulstein Power and Control has been contracted to deliver an extended power and automation package, including a large battery supply.
The vessels are based on the Ulstein SX222 design from Ulstein Design & Solutions AS. They have a length of 89.6m and a beam of 19.2m and accommodate 126 people in 91 cabins, all cabins with daylight.
Helge Torvik, project manager at Ulstein Verft, said: “It has been a few hectic months since the arrival of the hull in May, but in a structured fashion. The experience from the first project is very valuable for us, and I am satisfied with what we have accomplished so far”.
The project manager explains that “the hull has gradually been transformed into another state-of-the-art vessel during her stay in the covered dock hall.”
Protected from the weather, the outfitting work such as piping and mechanical installations, accommodation work, electrical installations, and external paintwork has been performed according to plan.
The next phase is the commissioning stage, which has already started.
