A 39-year-old male crew member of a tugboat has passed on after it sank in the Eastern Anchorage, within Singapore’s port limits.

According to a media release by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), the tugboat named OSHIO sank in the Eastern Anchorage, within Singapore’s port limits, at about 2:15 pm on September 4.

A search and rescue operation by MPA, the Police Coast Guard (PCG) and the Singapore Civil Defence Force is currently ongoing to find another missing crew member.

Two crew were reported to be onboard the tugboat at the time of incident. One 39-year-old male crew member who was earlier rescued by PCG was conveyed to the hospital where he subsequently passed on.

MPA said salvage divers have been activated to confirm the location of the sunken tug for salvage operations.

The authority is also issuing navigational broadcasts for vessels to keep clear of the area.
