Africa’s logistics operator Africa Global Logistics (AGL) teams up with Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Samudera Pelabuhan Indonesia for the operation of the Patimban container terminal in Indonesia.
AGL sealed an agreement with the two companies at the end of 2024 as the lead-member for the development and operation of the Patimban International Port.
In its announcement AGL claims that the international port of Patimban has been designed to support Indonesia’s growing needs in terms of port capacity and to meet the major logistical challenges.
Indonesia is experiencing significant growth, and the industrial area near Patimban is developing rapidly.
“Indonesia saw the need to upgrade its deepwater infrastructure near Jakarta,” reads the company’s statement.
The new deepwater port is co-financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
Meanwhile, AGL, Toyota Tsusho Corporation, and Samudera Pelabuhan Indonesia have incorporated PT. Patimban Global Gateway Terminal (PGT), the operating company awarded the 37-year partnership contract and dedicated to the management of the terminal.
The start of operation, scheduled for 2025, will first focus on the handling of general cargo. The container activity will start with the delivery of the gantry cranes scheduled for the summer of 2026.
