Fredericia Container Terminal A/S has opened following Fredericia Harbour expansion, led by Fredericia Shipping as the majority shareholder with 60% and APM Terminals (part of the Danish shipping giant A.P. Moller-Maersk Group) and ADP as minority shareholders, with 39% and 1% respectively.
As part of the port expansion, ADP has invested a DKK three-digit million amount to support the central logistics hub for Western Denmark.
With over 150,000 square metres of container space and a 450-metre deep-water quay, the newly established company Fredericia Container Terminal A/S is well-positioned to meet the growth potential of the Southern Denmark Region, offering short distances to final destinations and to Fredericia Shipping A/S’s terminal in Taulov, where Fredericia Container Terminal A/S has an additional 50,000 square metres at its disposal.
In the summer of 2023, ADP and Fredericia Shipping announced a joint venture aimed at operating and developing the container terminal in Taulov and at Fredericia Harbour, once the port expansion was ready for commissioning in autumn 2025.
To bring in new international expertise and support the continued development of the container business at Fredericia Harbour, ADP has chosen to include APM Terminals in the partnership with Fredericia Shipping for the establishment of the new operating company, Fredericia Container Terminal A/S.
Fredericia Shipping A/S holds the majority stake in the company and will continue to manage, administer, and operate the terminal as before, while APM Terminals, through its non-controlling minority share, will contribute investments and international expertise, particularly in operational excellence and safety.
Lars Vang, head of joint ventures and strategic partnerships at APM Terminals, sees great potential in the partnership: “APM Terminals can support Fredericia Container Terminal A/S in the operation and development of an independent terminal with our international experience in areas such as operational excellence and safety.
“Through this new collaboration at Fredericia Harbour, we can facilitate the growth we expect in Western Denmark, and together we will explore how and which investments can further optimise the container terminal.”
