Brookfield Asset Management will acquire a 14.1 percent stake in Associated Danish Ports (ADP) and become a minority owner.
The infrastructure company with investments in a number of ports around the world, including in the United States, Australia, South America and the United Kingdom, will provide ADP with a capital injection of DKK 700m, consisting of a combination of debt financing and equity, ADP said in its statement.
Brookfield, with an expertise in developing international port and infrastructure projects, will support ADP’s growth plan and enhance its footprint in the Nordics.
With Brookfield’s investment, ADP says it will continue to pursue growth opportunities through targeted investments in existing and new business areas and by entering into strategic partnerships with other port and infrastructure companies in Denmark and the Nordic region.
ADP owns and operates the port of Fredericia, the port of Nyborg and Taulov Dry port.
Current projects include the expansion of the container terminal in Fredericia, preparation for the expansion of the port of Nyborg, a significant expansion of the Taulov Dry Port and an investment in the port of Hanstholm, which will become part of ADP as of August 1.
In addition, the company has established partnerships with both TotalEnergies and Evida on CO₂ storage.
ADP expects to more than double its revenue within 8-10 years, which will increase employment and create new opportunities in the municipalities where ADP operates.
Rune D. Rasmussen, CEO of ADP, says: “Developments in the infrastructure and logistics market are moving faster than ever, and if Denmark is to maintain its position as a strong import and export nation, Danish ports must be able to keep up with foreign ones.
“ADP can ensure future growth across existing and new business areas. We are thus creating the foundation for ADP to develop into one of the leading port companies in the Nordic region. We are adding capital, skills and experience that can support ADP in entering an unprecedented development period for a Danish port company.”
