The Marseille-based container shipping line CMA CGM and Slovenia’s Port of Koper (Luka Koper) will establish a joint venture dedicated to automotive logistics services.
CMA CGM expands in Central Europe and supports the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor by signing a declaration to establish a joint venture as a limited liability company that will equip, maintain, and operate a 27,000 m2 site (located outside of the concession area) for automotive logistics services.
Operational in 2027, it will further strengthen Koper’s role as a hub for sustainable transport in the region.
With this move, CMA CGM and Luka Koper are upgrading a partnership that has been in place for over two decades.
The signing took place on October 20 during the visit of CMA CGM chairman and CEO Rodolphe Saadé to the Port of Koper, alongside Slovenian prime minister Robert Golob and French president Emmanuel Macron.
On the sidelines of the MED9 Heads of State Summit, the port of Koper hosted a high-ranking delegation.
Among the visitors were the French president Emmanuel Macron, the Slovenian prime minister Robert Golob, and the CMA CGM Group president and chief executive officer Rodolphe Saadé.
To remind, Slovenia holds in 2025 the presidency of the MED9 Group, an informal group of nine like-minded Mediterranean EU Member States (Cyprus, France, Greece, Croatia, Italy, Malta, Slovenia, Spain and Portugal).
Luka Koper and CMA CGM began cooperating in 2003, when the French company launched its first container line.
The company Luka Koper provides port and logistics services in the port of Koper, Slovenia. The Port of Koper is a multi-purpose port, equipped and prepared for handling and warehousing all types of goods.
Rodolphe Saadé, CMA CGM chairman and chief executive officer, said: “I was pleased to return to Slovenia to reaffirm CMA CGM’s confidence in the country, a key link between the Mediterranean and Central Europe. Yesterday, alongside President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Robert Golob, I visited the Port of Koper, the Adriatic’s leading port and a long-standing partner of CMA CGM.
“For over 20 years, we have worked together to connect the Adriatic, Asia and Central Europe. We are now opening a new chapter with CEVA Adria Terminali, a joint venture between CMA CGM and Luka Koper dedicated to automotive logistics. As global trade evolves, the Mediterranean will be more strategic than ever, with Slovenia well positioned at its crossroads.”
