The Port of Antwerp-Bruges has reported yesterday a container fire incident at Waaslandhaven, leading to the temporary suspension of terminal operations.
On June 24 at 5.30am local time, the port reported that due to the container fire at MPET, quay 1742, terminal operations were at a standstill.
Shipping traffic was currently blocked at Deurganckdok.
Emergency services were at the scene, whilst the fire reported to be under control.
“Major traffic disruption is expected in the Waaslandhaven as a result of this incident,” the port noted, warning to avoid the region.
The port notified in a new update yesterday at 07:00am that shipping traffic can resume in deurganckdok.
The container has now been moved to a safe location.
The port noted that everyone involved is making every effort to restart all activities as soon as possible.
“The organizations involved are now doing everything they can to restart all activities as quickly as possible,” the Hulpverleningszone Waasland said in its update yesterday.
