A large cruise terminal, operated by cruise port operator Global Ports Holding (GPH), and developed in partnership with local partner SEPCAN, has been inaugurated in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
The terminal building offers 14,000 square meters distributed across two levels. It features three boarding bridges, delivered by Milan Port Equipment through GPH’s alliance with Talleres Milan, and has the operational capacity to accommodate up to four cruise ships simultaneously.
The terminal is part of a €40m investment plan, aimed at modernizing cruise terminals in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, and Lanzarote.
The project was constructed by Satocán following the latest sustainability and innovation standards, including the use of recycled and eco-friendly materials, energy-efficient systems, solar power solutions, and responsible waste management, cruise port operator GPH stated in a press release.
The inauguration ceremony brought together local and regional authorities, security forces, business leaders, and members of the port community.
The event was hosted as a mid-afternoon cocktail reception at the terminal.
“Las Palmas holds a strategic position within global cruise itineraries, and this new terminal represents an important step in further strengthening the destination’s role within the international cruise market,” commented Mehmet Kutman, chairman of Global Ports Holding.
Following the opening, the new terminal will host Seatrade Cruise Med this September, according to the press release.
