A maritime collision occurred in the Changjiang River, China involving two bulk carriers, one registered in Singapore and the other in Japan. The two bulk carriers, the Singapore-registered bulk carrier, YANGZE 22, and the Japan-registered bulk carrier, VEGA DREAM, collided in the Changjiang River, China, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).

The incident occurred on December 30, MPA said, at around 10 pm Singapore time.

The MPA was informed about the incident, mentioning that both YANGZE 22 and VEGA DREAM are in stable condition and no injuries to the crew are reported on both vessels.

According to a media release by the MPA, the bulk carrier YANGZE 22 reported damage to its hull and is currently anchored at Hengsha East Anchorage for damage assessment. YANGZE 22 also reported that about 9 metric tonnes of fuel oil spilled due to the collision.

The MPA said that the Shanghai Maritime Safety Administration (MSA), together with several support craft deployed by YANGZE 22’s company, are currently conducting clean-up of the fuel oil spilled.

“MPA was informed by the Shanghai MSA that the situation is under control,” reported MPA.

MPA is in touch with the ship management company of YANGZE 22 and the Shanghai MSA to offer the necessary assistance.

Authorities have not disclosed the cause of the collision, and MPA has confirmed it will investigate the incident.
