All travelling into the European Union must pass a border control point. The consequences for crew from countries outside the EU is that signing on/off a vessel is only possible in Swedish ports with a border control point, and only during the hours this border control point is open.
As of the 19th of August 2024 the Swedish Coast Guard and the Swedish Police will be most restrictive with permission to sign on/off crew from a vessel in an alternative port or time, according to the Swedish Coast Guard.
Exceptions can only be made for illness, or other circumstances out of the ordinary.
The Border Control Points (BCP) are listed on the website of the Swedish Police.
“It is of the utmost importance to report in advance and in good time the planned changing of crew members,” the statement reads.
