Dockworkers in Sweden are joining forces to block Tesla’s unloading and loading of cars in all Swedish ports, in an effort to pressure Tesla to sign a collective bargaining agreement.
The Swedish Transport Workers’ Union (Svenska Transportarbetareförbundet) said is expanding the conflict against Tesla to all ports in Sweden next week, after launching the action at four key locations.
The Swedish Transport Workers’ Union have announced sympathy actions with the trade union IF Metall, in the form of a blockade against the unloading and loading of Tesla cars in Swedish ports.
The aim is to support IF Metall in the fight to sign a collective bargaining agreement with Tesla in Sweden, the union said in its statement.
According to IF Metall, there were negotiations with Tesla for a long time. “The Tesla conflict is also about defending the Swedish Labor market model,” the Swedish union pointed out.
Transport has already imposed a blockade in four Swedish ports against the handling of Tesla cars.
Although the first blockade was put in operation yesterday, November 7, the conflict against Tesla is expanded, and the blockade is extended to all Swedish ports. The blockade in all ports will enter into force on Friday, November 17.
Tommy Wreeth, Transport’s union chairman, said: “We are now expanding the conflict. There will be a total stop for Tesla cars in all Swedish ports. We have received messages that Tesla cars are planned to be transferred to other Swedish ports and we are now closing that possibility completely. We have of course further plans for countermeasures to get Tesla to sign collective bargaining agreement.”
The sympathy measure means that unloading and loading of Tesla cars is blockaded, but other work in the ports is going on business as usual.
In accordance with Union’s announcement, the sympathy measures apply until otherwise announced or until a collective bargaining agreement is signed between IF Metall and TM Sweden AB, Tesla.
