Ukrainian drones hit Russian port oil infrastructure

Ukraine’s defense forces struck a port oil infrastructure, as Kyiv has intensified strikes on Russian energy infrastructure this year.

In a post on social media, the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, described the attack as part of Ukraine’s “long-range sanctions” against Russia.

Zelenskyy said: “Tonight, our Ukrainian long-range sanctions against Russia for this war took effect near St. Petersburg.”

In his post on Saturday morning, Zelensky said the targets hit the port oil infrastructure. He also said there were strikes on Kronstadt.

“The distance from Ukraine’s state border is over 850 kilometers,” Zelenskyy wrote in his statement.

“My thanks to everyone who is ensuring Ukraine’s precision and carrying out our long-range sanctions plan,” he said.

Russia has not publicly commented on the claim.

The extent of the damage was not immediately clear, but a video posted by the Ukrainian president showed a drone flying towards a target and a huge column of black smoke billowing from the area after the strike.

Russian officials confirmed on Saturday that St. Petersburg had been subjected to a “large-scale attack by enemy military drones.”

They said, however, there were no casualties and the aftermath of the attack had been dealt with.
