The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) was alerted at about 1:30pm on April 14 that a moored Belize-registered dredger, KSE Hitachi, had sunk off Tuas, according to the authority’s media release on April 14.
Fortunately, there were no personnel reported to be on board the dredger at the time of the incident.
The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) responded swiftly to the situation, ensuring that port operations in the area continued without disruption.
“Port operations remain unaffected,” the authority said on April 14.
The MPA has also taken proactive measures by issuing navigational broadcasts to advise passing vessels to keep clear of the area.
“The dredger’s company is making arrangements to salvage the vessel,” the MPA said on Monday, adding that three MPA patrol crafts have been deployed to the site to render assistance.
In light of the incident, the MPA has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the sinking of the KSE Hitachi.
